Admit it. You have at one point imagined you were Zac Farro drumming in the air with Misery Business blaring in your earphones, or maybe wished you were there onstage with Gerard Way because you know all the beats to Welcome to The Black Parade.
The only thing that is getting in the way of your fantasies turning to reality, is that you don’t own a drum set. And where will that fit in a 200sqft apartment or a shared dorm room?
Well, it’s a great time to be alive, people. That problem has just been solved for us.
Did you know you can now play drums WITHOUT a drum set?
The company Vat19, home to “curiously awesome” gifts, candy, and toys (to name a few), recently released a quirky new plaything for music enthusiasts called Aerodrums and it is wig snatching!
Aerodrums is a musical instrument without the instrument. Directly connect the device to your computer via a USB port, pretend you’re striking an unseen hi-hat or snare and you’ll hear your sick beats in real time. The reflectors on the drumsticks are captured by the included camera and interpreted as drum hits by free software you download on your computer. I mean, what could be cooler than a drummer without a drum set?
You can pick pre-programmed beat sets, input your original MIDI tracks and even record your entire session. Imagine all the possibilities!
Aerodrums provides a fantastic way to experiment with music that creates impressively realistic sounds without requiring the massive space for a drum set, and not to mention outrageous bragging rights for owning a fine piece of technology! This is definitely a step forward in the right direction for aspiring musicians all over the world.
