The Disney Company is huge and have made countless movies that are loved by billions of people around the world. But did you know that some of their most famous titles have been based on real events and unusual stories – some of which would not have made it to become appropriate children’s movies if they haven’t been modified to suit their audience. Not all of these movies end in happily ever after.
One of these Disney films is Snow White. Snow White was the first of now many Disney princesses. We all know the Disney version, a lovely story, but the original story is pretty gory. Written originally by The Brothers Grimm in 1812, it’s essentially similar to the Disney film except for when Snow White is poisoned by the apple. The prince does not kiss her and bring her back to life. Instead, he takes the casket, trips over the branch, Snow White falls, and the poisoned apple dislodges from her throat, bringing Snow White back to life.
Now here’s where it gets dark. They arrange a huge wedding inviting every king and queen in the land. The wicked queen accepts the invitation not realizing it’s her stepdaughter’s wedding. When she arrives, she’s made to wear a pair of shoes that are glowing red hot. She is forced to dance until she drops dead as a punishment for trying to kill Snow White.
