Densuke Watermelon, The Blackest of All [mashshare]

Japanese food is already expensive but this delicacy takes it a step further. The Densuke watermelon is a unique one as it is grown only on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. It is extremely rare because only 10,000 watermelons are produced each year, which might sound like a lot but in fruit yield terms, that’s next to nothing. These luxury watermelons are black on the outside without any stripes or spots. Densuke watermelons sell for almost 250 dollars or more, although one sold for $6,100 in 2008.
