When you mention British weather, what immediately comes to mind? If you answered rain, then you’re a lot smarter than the guys running marketing for Walkers crisps. They thought it would be fun to award 10 British pounds to their faithful customers if they can guess where the rain would fall on a grid map of the UK. Rains continually fell during the entire run of the promotion and Walkers had no choice but to follow through with their promise. After the promotion, Walkers had to award 660,000 pounds as prizes to those who guessed Britain’s fairly predictable weather patterns. To be fair, it did end up working as a marketing promotion since it made people remember the name Walkers crisps for years to come.
