A new hair trend is climbing its way up to the limelight and it’s shinin’ like the sun!
Sparkly hair can now be easily achieved through a technique called Glitterage.
Danielle Wade, a hair stylist based in Denver, coined the term. She says the technique came about as a happy accident while she was playing around in the salon trying to make a video when she suddenly had a crazy idea of balayaging hair glitter onto the hair.
For the uninitiated, Balayage is a technique that sweeps color or bleach through the hair. It’s another hair trend that’s not going away anytime soon. Now combine balayage and glitter and you get – Glitterage!
Danielle uses hair glitter, or she’ll mix loose glitter with hair gel for a similar effect. This is then applied to the hair strands the Balayage way. As if the sparkles aren’t enough, you can still style your hair before or after the Glitterage process – the possibilities are endless! Not to mention, it’s a completely wearable style.
It can be a fun new way to dress up for parties, New York’s Eve or a festival.
The sad thing is, it is not permanent. It is not a hair color process, instead, it is a styling process using coloring technique.
Danielle recommends brushing out as much glitter out of your hair before shampooing so it’s easier to wash off. For the environmentally conscious, you can also opt for biodegradable glitter.
